Forgotten Our Sister Planet—and UFO?

Discover ten fascinating facts about our neighbor Venus! We refer to her as her sister planet,
the goddess of love, the "morning star," and apparently a UFO! continue reading...

Venus is always bright and emits a steady silver light. Our brightest planet will be a "morning star"
in the eastern sky just before daybreak for almost the entire year of 2022. Venus will fade into the
Sun's glare in late August, then retreat to it in October before reappearing as "evening".
Star" in the evening in the western sky in late December.

10 Interesting Facts About Hot Venus.

Take a look at these 10 fascinating Venus facts about our very hot neighbor planet!

1. Venus is Earth's nearest solar system neighbor! It is the second planet and is sometimes
referred to as our "sister planet" because its diameter and density are roughly the same as ours.

2. Venus is the brightest body in the sky after the Sun and the Moon.
The planet is often called the "morning star" because it appears as a bright star in the morning
    or evening sky.

3. The creamy-white glow of Venus is oddly consistent, caused by sunlight bouncing off bright
clouds of sulfuric acid. She rarely twinkles.

4. However, Venus is so bright that it can cast a shadow when viewed from a dark place.
Wait until the new moon phase, when there is no moon to compete.

5. We have learned that the surface of Venus is covered with craters, volcanoes, mountains
     and vast plains of lava.

6. Despite its cute name, Venus is the most obnoxious planet in the universe! Its surface
temperature never exceeds 850 degrees Fahrenheit, making it hotter than a wood stove.

7. The air is 100% carbon dioxide, which acts as a blanket to block the sun's heat. The surface
temperature of Venus is higher than that of Mercury. Long before the term "greenhouse effect"
became popular, this was the basic model.

8. Venus's atmosphere is so dense that it will crush you. The air pressure on the planet remains
constant at 90 Earth pressures, making it the most efficient pressure cooker in this part of the
galaxy. For beef stew, a few seconds will be enough.

Sure. She will melt your heart. you will be crushed He smells too. This is strictly a "look but don'
     touch" situation.

UFO or Planet?
Did you know that Venus alone is responsible for more than half of all UFO reports? And they are not
all the work of idiots. Two of my favorite Venus stories:

9. The governor of Georgia, Jimmy Carter called the state police to report a UFO that turned out to be
Venus!

10. In World War II, an Allied bomber squadron returning from a mission over Japan saw a
brilliant light that appeared to remain with them. He attempted to blow up the Evening Star
with his cannons, but was unsuccessful. When someone begins a sentence with "I see a star..."
on our Overlook Observatory phone or during a public radio call-in show, I obnoxiously
       interrupt them: "Venus!"
